In this guide
A box that is too tight crushes the product; one that is too loose lets it move and break. Boxes are ordered by inside dimensions, so measure the product, then add room for cushioning.
Measure in four steps
- Length (L): the longest side of the product.
- Width (W): the second side, across the product.
- Height (H): the vertical side, as it will sit inside the box.
- Add allowance: add space on each side for wrapping or cushioning (see below).
How much allowance to add
| Product type | Allowance per side |
|---|---|
| Sturdy, no wrap | About 0.5 to 1 cm |
| Light wrap or paper | About 1 to 2 cm |
| Fragile with bubble wrap | Thickness of the wrap, often 2 to 4 cm |
These are practical starting points. Wrap or bubble roll thickness varies, so measure your actual packed item where you can.

Common mistakes
- Giving outside size when the box is ordered by inside size.
- Forgetting the thickness of bubble wrap or inserts.
- Mixing units, for example length in cm and height in inches.
- Measuring the product but not its packaging, tag or accessories.
If your product is odd-shaped, tell us its dimensions and a photo on WhatsApp and we suggest a custom or die-cut option.
